It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here... I have a ton of Christmas music at my fingertips, thanks to spotify....(thank you spotify).
I remember, growing up...especially as a teenager...my Mom would start playing the Christmas music right at Thanksgiving....and every weekend after that....while I was trying to be a lazy teenager, sleeping in on the weekends....the Christmas music would be blasting through the house...but it was always Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers Christmas...
huh. I kinda miss it now.
I'll share my favorite songs.... the ones that send me christmas tingles.....like espresso shots in my egg nog....not that i've tried that....hmmmm, i've never tried that....
1. The Christmas Song, by Dave Matthews....this is just....so sweet and touching...and puts the relationship of Mary and Joseph...into a very sweet, regular, everyday love story...and then they have a wee beautiful baby boy...and....love....and love was all around...
2. Christmastime is here, by Vince Guaraldi Trio, this is the exemplar Christmas song to me....one that makes you want to sit and watch the glow of Christmas lights....just warm....and chill....and makes you just...gooey and brings you back to Snoopy and the Peanuts...and ice skating as a kid...and simple things. it's just good.
3. Christmas Wrapping, by the Waitresses....this song just kicks my ass every time I hear it....I'm immediately dancing and my heart is light and I just want to laugh...it makes me all....ahhhh....just happy. here's to happy.
4. What Child is This, Vanessa Williams....LOVE...it's jazzy...and fun to sing....and smooth.
5. Gabriel's Message, Sting, because no favorites list of music is ever complete without a song from Sting, and this one is just beautiful. I can listen to this song any...time.
6. Winter Wonderland, Jason Mraz- I am sensing a theme here...I drift towards this kind of stuff...Listen to his version....I love.
7. Haul out the holly. We need a little Christmas...right this very damn minute.....it's like Christmas Cheer at it's most direct....there's no mistake here...and I was a cheerleader in high school....so I *think* I know cheer. I'm positive this song will cheer up a warthog. The best line of this song... "I taught you all to live each living day" but...I do prefer the Glee version....I admit it. slice up the fruitcake. :)
peace...and love....and living each living day....like it's Christmas.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,May your day be bright x

DeleteLove the Waitresses, that is a sure fire Xmas classic, big time. I'm a 70's sort of guy, so simply love that era & music. So, my top tunes are the glam rock era - Slade, Wizzard etc. Great memories though, oh, then there's the other classic of the Pogues with Kirsty McCall. Must be the only song you can avoid the lyrics & simply mumble the whole way through!
ReplyDeleteBah, humbug! no that's too strong, cause it is my favorite holiday. :) it is just the best. :) thanks for the comments!
